Harlem - Hippies
They come from arid regions of Arizona. So far nothing very exciting I hear you say. Unless the album
of Harlem is anything but bland. 16 tracks (yes, no less!) Beautifully crafted, beautifully dilapidated. Influences that will dip into the 60's of
Sonics or in his garage nicely rebel. There is arrogance, naivety and freshness in this album. Most importantly, there is a kind of gentle nostalgia indolence. Hippies yes, but not posers like their brethren in the Big Apple. Harlem has just offered us an album that smells like freedom.
The New Pornographers - Together
Fifth album for this happy group of Vancouver. In line with previous
The New Pornographers pop offer bright, refreshing and devilishly effective. Admittedly, this is an album without surprises. But the result is here: epic and removed. And most incredibly generous. It feels good sometimes.
The National - High Purple
The National is certainly one of the most upscale in recent years. A kind of melancholy elegance and disillusioned. The kind of elegance that annoys and fascinates at the same time. The fact is that members of The National seem to be affected by a divine grace as their albums are each a treasure trove of virtuosity. Matt Berninger and his playmates, we offer this time an album more raw, more savage than the previous. The sound is tinged with a melancholic dark and suffocating.
This is an album multifaceted, complex and tortured. A hard one listens but it feels too.
